Conditions of the Sacrificial Animal: Age and Soundness

It is a condition that it be from grazing livestock (bahimat al-an'am), and that it reach the recognized age: al-jadha' from sheep is that which has completed six months, al-thaniyy from goats is that which has completed one year, from cattle that which has completed two years, and from camels that which has completed five years. And it must be free from defects, because of his ﷺ saying: «أربعٌ لا تجوز: العوراء البيّن عورها، والمريضة البيّن مرضها، والعرجاء البيّن ظَلَعها، والعجفاء التي لا تُنقي».
