Hajj & Umrah Guide1Ihram and Intention
The pilgrim performing Umrah bathes, applies perfume, and wears the Ihram garments (an izar and rida' for men), then makes the intention to enter the rite at the Miqat. It is not permissible to pass the Miqat without Ihram.
2The Talbiyah
The pilgrim begins reciting the Talbiyah, raising his voice with it (for men), and repeats it often from the moment of Ihram until he begins the Tawaf, at which point he stops.
3Tawaf Around the Ka'bah — Seven Circuits
He circles the Ka'bah seven times in a state of purity, beginning at the Black Stone, touching it or pointing to it while saying 'Allahu Akbar,' keeping the House on his left. He should recite much remembrance and supplication, including what is said between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone:
4Praying Two Rak'ahs Behind the Station of Ibrahim
After finishing the Tawaf, he prays two rak'ahs behind the Station of Ibrahim if possible, reciting Surat al-Kafirun after al-Fatihah in the first rak'ah and Surat al-Ikhlas in the second.
5Sa'i Between Safa and Marwah
He goes out to Safa, climbs it, faces the Qiblah, raises his hands, says 'Allahu Akbar,' and supplicates. Then he descends to Marwah; men should walk briskly between the two green markers, completing seven circuits, the last ending at Marwah. Among what is said upon Safa and Marwah:
6Shaving or Trimming the Hair
After the Sa'i, a man shaves his entire head (which is better) or trims all of it, while a woman trims a fingertip's length from her hair. With this, the Umrah is complete.
