The Prophet's SeerahGabriel descended upon the Prophet ﷺ in the Cave of Hira when he was forty years old, and recited to him the first words revealed of the Qur'an: 'اقرأ باسم ربك الذي خلق'. He returned to Khadijah frightened, and she reassured and comforted him, then took him to Waraqah ibn Nawfal, who gave him the glad tidings that he was the prophet of this nation. Then the revelation paused for a period, after which it resumed continuously with the command to warn and call to Islam.
